Day 4 Saturday 7 march 09

We woke up early in the morning and change to another small cruise. It took us a few hours to get to a place called Shennong River. The Shennong River joins the Yangtze east of the Chonquing (Southwest China) in the centre of the Three Gorges. The place was really beautiful. We alight from the cruise and board a boat. I learnt from the guide that the people who sail the boat were called the river trackers.

In the olden days, the river trackers will stripped to a loincloth or naked. They will use heavy ropes to drag the boat by brute force until it was able to float. The river trackers were all thin but yet strong. The river trackers were all very preserving because it is not easy for three people to pull a boat that have ten over passenger.

After visiting the Shennong River, we went to another place called Baidicheng. It was a mini town with some temples and gates on top of the baidi hill. We have to climb a few hundred steps in order to get to the top. The reason why the place was famous was because Li Bai, a great poet in Tang Dynasty in the 7th century, had written a famous poem about the place. The reason why it was call Baidicheng was because a ambitious general at that time wanted to declared himself as the emperor.

One day he dreamt of a dragon rising from a well, and he believe that it was will of God of heaven, he therefore named the place baidicheng and declared himself as the emperor. But he was killed by Liuxiu who established the Han Dynasty.Another reason why the place was popular was because of Liu Bei, the shu Kingdom in three kingdom period. Before he was dead, he entrusted his state power and son to zhuge Liang. The wax statues in the temple describe the moment in the year 220 AD.
