Day 11 saturday 14 march 09

Today was a Saturday, so we do not have to attend any classes. I woke up around 10plus am, bushed my teeth and ate some bread for breakfast. In the afternoon, we book 2 buses and went to a place called Han Kou for shopping. We took about 40 minutes to reach there. The place was really crowded. There were many shops that sell sportswear; some of the popular brands were Adidas, Nike and other local brands like Antas.

The prices of the clothes here was about the same price over at Singapore, so it didn’t really interest me. I bought a pair of shoe as the price was reasonable. After walking for some time, we went for lunch at a shopping mall. We enter a shop that was very crowded; we feel that since the shop was crowded with so many people, the food there must be really nice. We look at the menu and order two dishes. The first dish was frog meat and it was really spicy but taste was good. The second dish really shock me, it was a bowl of snails. I have never eaten snail meat before in Singapore and it look really disgusting to me. The reason why we ordered snail meat was because we never look at the menu carefully, we just look at the picture in the menu and thought it was mushrooms. The taste of the snail meat was really weird, the front part of the snail was nice but the back part of the snail was bitter. Over all I think it was a good experience and the lesson I learnt was that, we must look at the menu carefully when ordering food in future.

During lunch we also went to hunt for some more food, the food that was nice in Han Kou was their egg tarts. We bought 5 boxes each containing 5 tarts, it was really delicious. Other local foods that we tried were the red bean ice, mango ice and smelly toufu. After filling up our stomach, we continue shopping.

At the side of the road, I realised something unique, in china the cleaner use bicycle as rubbish truck, I took some pictures below. They will collect rubbish in the bin and pour it into a big bin behind a bicycle. In Singapore I have never seen such a rubbish truck before, I think it is a good thing using bicycle as rubbish truck because bicycle does not require any fuel thus will not pollute the air.

At Han kou, I also took some pictures of the streets, there were really full of people in china. Where ever you walk in china, you will always see plenty of people. And when queuing up for food, sometimes we must wait really long. At the side of the road, I manage to take some pictures of the round charcoal, all the road site stalls use this round charcoal for cooking and I find it really unique as I have never seen this type of charcoal in Singapore.

After walking for a long distance we went to the nearby Mac Donald to have our dinner. I ate the Mac pork meal again, but this time, I tried something new. I tried their red bean pie and in Singapore we don’t find in Mac Donald.

After dinner we took the bus that we book back to apartment. I observed the way the driver was driving and I felt that he was really reckless. He even drove straight ahead when the traffic light was red. I personally feel that drivers here are really more reckless compare to Singapore. And the pedestrian in china really loves to jay walk and they don’t really care about the danger. Overall I don’t really feel safe when crossing roads in china.
