Day 16 thursday 19march 09

The weather was fine. I woke up at 7.20 as my lesson starts at 8.10am. The lesson today was on interdisciplinary studies. It was taught by the same local lecturer Andy Xi. The first topic today was on challenges of economic development in the future of china. I learnt that china’s overall integration with global economy will provide better conditions to the economic growth, but may also increase the uncertainty of economic development.

In china, there are constraint of natural resources and environment, non tradable resources, such as land and water and environmental problems. In the second topic I learnt about the consumer lifestyle and fashion in china. I found out that there are ways that you can advertise your produce on streets and it is FREE! It is to put your advertisement on the stamp maker and stamp your advertisement on walls.

I also learnt that people here would rather buy 5 pairs of normal jeans than to buy a pair of branded jeans. After lesson, I went to take a look at other classroom in the school. I realised that their chairs and tables were made of wood. It was really different compare to our classroom in Ngee Ann. Their chairs and tables were really cool looking as you won’t get to see it in Singapore, I took some photos. I went back to apartment to ate bread and cheese for lunch because the food outside was oily and salty.

After lunch, we went out at around 3.40pm. We accompanied Mr wee to the massage therapist; it was a 25mins walk to reach the place. The massage here was cheap, 1 hour for 38 yuan. While waiting for Mr wee, we went to the nearby wet market to shop for groceries. The wet market looks about the same as Singapore, but the wet market here was really wet!!! I almost slip and fall. I took some pictures of the wet market. We bought a lot of vegetables as we wanted to cook our own dinner tomorrow.

After shopping for groceries, we went back to find Mr wee and we went to eat dinner at the nearby restaurant. We ordered food like tomatoes with eggs, steam fish, a few dishes of vegetables and pork ribs with pineapple. It cost 202 yuan for 9 people, and it was considered cheap. The food was delicious and every one of us enjoyed the dinner. We walked back to our apartment after dinner, it was a 25 minutes’ walk.

Tomorrow exams results will be out soon, so everyone were nervous and couldn’t sleep. So we went to watch movie in our friends apartment.
