I woke up 7 plus am as my lesson today starts at around 8 am. The weather was less than 10 degrees and was really cold. Today lesson was taught by local lecturer, Mr Andy xi, the topic was on consumers in china. I learnt about the shopping habits and frequency of different groups of people in china. Most people in china will look at price first then brand when they want to purchase something. The most effective way to trigger impulse shopping is through discount, second (free gifts), radio and TV advertisement.
The next topic that I learnt today was the relationships (guanxi) networks in china. In western countries = relation grow out of deal, but in china= deal grow out of relation. So in order to do business in china in future, I learnt that I have to build relations with the people first. To westerners, relationships help the individual, but to Chinese, they also define the individual. They are many advantages for building good relationship ( guanxi), 1. Part of business strategy, 2. Like an asset which must be managed to prevent it from becoming liability, 3.is also crucial to have good understanding of relationship.
There are three main points in building and managing relationship, 1. Strategic design, 2.building, 3.maintain and manage. After the morning lesson, I went back my apartment to rest as there is still lesson in the afternoon. For the afternoon lesson, it was taught by a local lecturer. The topic was introduction of china history. I learnt about, Ancient history (1.7million years ago -1840), i. Prehistorical civilization, ii. Pre- qin Era (21 century BC-221BC), iii. Splendid imperial era (qing dynasty 221BC to 18 century).
I also learnt about literature and art of china, architectural art (Forbidden city, summer palace, Suzhou garden), and the foreign relation (the silk road). After lesson, we went to the Japanese restaurant to celebrate Jianwen and Kuan birthday; we ordered beef, lamb, fish, vegetables, oysters and rice, all of us enjoyed the food there. At night, the girls bought a birthday cake for them and everyone celebrated Jianwen and Kuan birthday in our apartment.
